Fresh organic Williams pears from Argentina arrived!

Good news! The first organic Williams pears from Argentina have arrived. Straight from the tree, for optimum freshness and flavour.

We expect several more organic varieties from Argentina in the coming weeks, in addition to Williams:
✔ Week 12: First red variety, Red Bartlett,  available
✔ Week 14: Small volumes of d'Anjou available
✔ Week 16: Packham and Abate Fetel arrive

All varieties from Argentina are available with Demeter certification - the highest organic standard

This season, pears are larger in size on average, with smaller sizes being scarcer. This is a result of climatic conditions during growth, such as water availability, temperature and flowering.

Pears deserve a spotlight

Recent research by GroentenFruit Huis shows that the Netherlands leads the way in pear consumption: 2.8 kg per person by 2023, more than Germany (2.3 kg), the UK (2.3 kg), France (2.1 kg) and Italy (2.1 kg). Yet consumption is under pressure - and that's a shame for such a versatile fruit!

Pears are a fresh, juicy and nutritious snack - a perfect alternative to apples and, as an organic variety, ideal as a healthy snack for children. Their soft flesh and mild flavour make them popular with young and old alike. Time to highlight them again!

Did you know that...?

The CO₂ emissions from transporting fresh pears from Argentina are lower than the CO₂ emissions caused by storing European pears in cold stores for months on end? A fresh and more sustainable alternative!
